ABUJA, July 24, 2025 – In a renewed effort to deepen Nigeria’s academic collaboration with its professional diaspora, the Federal Government has announced plans to launch the Diaspora BRIDGE Platform on Monday, July 28, 2025, at the State House, Abuja.
According to a press release issued by the Federal Ministry of Education, the launch will be presided over by Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, alongside the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa.
The Diaspora BRIDGE—short for Bridging Research, Innovation, Development, and Global Engagement—is a strategic digital initiative aimed at connecting Nigerian academics and professionals in the diaspora with higher education and research institutions in the country. It forms part of the Ministry’s broader drive to foster innovation, enhance institutional capacity, and elevate Nigeria’s education sector to a globally competitive standard.
Through the platform, diaspora experts will be able to register their profiles, indicate areas of specialization, and collaborate directly with local universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and research centers. Similarly, Nigerian institutions will be empowered to signal specific needs and initiate structured, demand-driven partnerships.
The platform is equipped with advanced tools for virtual collaboration, academic matchmaking, and project tracking, and it is designed to integrate smoothly with existing government systems like the TERAS platform—enhancing transparency, alignment, and measurable outcomes.
The Ministry has invited all stakeholders in the education and research sectors to follow the launch and seize the opportunities it presents for innovation and excellence in Nigerian higher education.
