FG Trains 1,800 Youths in Web Development, Cybersecurity to Tackle Poverty

Abuja, Nigeria – July 4, 2025 — As part of efforts to combat poverty and empower young Nigerians with in-demand digital competencies, the Federal Government has successfully trained 1,800 youths in web development and cybersecurity.

The initiative, championed by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, was implemented in collaboration with strategic technical partners to equip beneficiaries with job-ready skills aligned with global technology trends.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the training held in Abuja, the Honourable Minister, Dr. Betta Edu, stated that the programme aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which prioritizes human capital development and digital inclusion.

“This intervention is a direct investment in our youth. We are unlocking new opportunities and giving them the tools to compete in the digital economy, whether in employment or entrepreneurship,” the Minister said.

The intensive training covered core aspects of front-end and back-end web development, cybersecurity principles, and digital ethics. Participants were drawn from across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with deliberate inclusion of vulnerable groups and persons with disabilities.

Graduates of the programme are expected to receive starter kits and business support advisory to help them apply their new skills productively. In addition, some have already been linked with internship and job placement opportunities through the Ministry’s partner network.

Stakeholders at the event praised the government’s proactive approach in tackling youth unemployment and insecurity by leveraging technology as a transformative tool. The government pledged to expand the programme in future phases to reach more Nigerian youths.
