FG Trains Over 1,000 Children in Coding, Robotics at NITDA Bootcamp

Abuja, Nigeria — August 16, 2025 | The Federal Government has equipped more than 1,000 Nigerian children with skills in coding, robotics, and digital literacy through the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) Kids Coding Bootcamp, as part of its push to nurture a new generation of tech innovators.

The programme, aligned with Nigeria’s digital economy strategy, provided hands-on training in programming, robotics engineering, and critical problem-solving for children aged 8 to 16. Organisers say the initiative is designed to foster early competence in emerging technologies while preparing young Nigerians for future opportunities in the global digital economy.

Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, praised the project, describing it as a testament to government’s commitment to positioning Nigeria as Africa’s technology hub. He emphasised that early exposure to tech skills will boost innovation and strengthen the country’s competitiveness in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

NITDA’s Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa, noted that the bootcamp is part of a long-term plan to expand digital literacy nationwide, with a focus on children from underserved communities.

Participants showcased innovative projects such as automated devices, educational games, and beginner-level software applications, earning commendations from industry stakeholders and parents.
