FG Unveils TRCN Digital Platform to Ease Teacher Registration and Licensing

The Federal Government has launched a new digital platform through the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) aimed at simplifying teacher registration, licensing, and professional development across the country.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, who unveiled the platform in Abuja, said the initiative is part of ongoing reforms to modernize the education sector and restore dignity to the teaching profession. The platform will allow teachers to register online, renew licenses, check Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE) results, and download certificates without visiting TRCN state offices.

Registrar of TRCN, Dr. Ronke Soyombo, explained that the system is designed to save teachers time, reduce stress, and ensure transparency. With the new service-level agreement, PQE results will now be released within one week, enabling faster certification for successful candidates.

For teachers, the platform offers more than just convenience. It provides direct access to professional records, continuous training updates, and soon, an AI-powered lesson plan generator that will support classroom delivery. The streamlined PQE curriculum now focuses on five key areas—mathematics, literacy, digital skills, safeguarding, and pedagogy—ensuring teachers are equipped for modern teaching demands.

Stakeholders noted that the platform enhances accountability through a mandatory ethics and criminal record verification framework, which ensures only certified and ethically cleared teachers remain in classrooms. This, according to the government, will protect learners while boosting public trust in the profession.

Teachers have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a “game changer” that reduces bureaucracy and strengthens their professional growth. With easier access to certification, improved digital tools, and transparent processes, the portal is expected to increase the number of certified teachers nationwide and elevate teaching standards across Nigeria.
