FG, World Bank Collaborate to Digitally Empower Young Nigerians and Drive Job Creation

The Federal Government of Nigeria, in partnership with the World Bank, has launched an initiative aimed at equipping young Nigerians with critical digital skills to boost their employability and foster job creation. The $10 million initiative is part of a broader effort to address youth unemployment and stimulate economic growth by focusing on digital empowerment.

The initiative is being implemented under the Innovation Development and Effectiveness in the Acquisition of Skills (IDEAS) project. The project will focus on enhancing the employability of young Nigerians by providing them with relevant skills that align with the demands of the modern job market. The partnership aims to train thousands of youth in various digital competencies, preparing them for careers in sectors such as technology, entrepreneurship, and digital marketing.

Dr. Mistura Rufai, an Education Specialist with the World Bank, emphasized the importance of equipping young Nigerians with skills that are essential for the digital age. During a two-day workshop for grantees of the Innovation Grant Facility in Abuja, Dr. Rufai discussed strategies to enhance the effectiveness of skills acquisition programs, ensuring they meet the evolving needs of the labor market.

The collaboration between the Federal Government and the World Bank aims to create a more dynamic and competitive workforce in Nigeria. By investing in digital skills training, the initiative is expected to help young Nigerians access better job opportunities, drive innovation, and contribute to the country’s economic growth.

This partnership represents a significant step forward in the government’s efforts to address the skills gap in the Nigerian workforce and prepare the next generation for success in an increasingly digital world.
