Ibadan, Nigeria — August 15, 2025 | Parts of Ibadan were thrown into panic on Friday after a fire broke out at Fresh FM, one of the city’s most popular radio stations.
The incident was first made public through an urgent appeal on social media by Ibadan-based media personality Arugbobois, who called on residents to alert the nearest fire service and help spread the word.
While the cause of the blaze remains unknown, eyewitnesses reported seeing thick black smoke rising from the station’s premises, fuelling fears of severe damage to broadcasting equipment and studio facilities.
Emergency responders, including officers of the Oyo State Fire Service, were swiftly deployed to contain the inferno and prevent it from spreading to adjoining buildings.
Founded by veteran musician Yinka Ayefele, Fresh FM is a household name in Oyo State and beyond, celebrated for its vibrant mix of music, news, and talk programmes.
As of press time, officials had yet to confirm the extent of the destruction or possible casualties, but the incident has drawn a wave of sympathy and concern from listeners and media colleagues nationwide.
