First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Urges Nigerians to Embrace Unity in Diversity

ABUJA — As the world commemorates the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, has called on Nigerians to draw strength from the country’s cultural richness and shared humanity.

In a goodwill message on Tuesday, the First Lady emphasized that Nigeria’s strength lies in its diversity, with over 250 ethnic groups and numerous languages. She noted that mutual respect, dialogue, and empathy are key pillars for national unity and identity.

“This day reminds us of the profound strength that lies in our differences and the shared humanity that connects us all,” Senator Tinubu said. “Nigeria, for example, is blessed with over 250 ethnic groups, each speaking a different language, but it is through our dialogue, our interactions, and our mutual respect that we find true identity and unity.”

She encouraged Nigerians to celebrate the country’s diverse heritage and engage one another with understanding and compassion. “On this day, I encourage every Nigerian to celebrate our cultural richness, to listen with empathy, and to lead with understanding. Let us embrace this journey together and shape a brighter future for Nigeria and the world,” she added.

The World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development is marked globally on May 21 and serves as a reminder of the importance of bridging cultural divides and promoting peaceful coexistence in increasingly diverse societies.

Senator Tinubu’s message comes at a time when cultural harmony and national integration remain central to Nigeria’s developmental aspirations under the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration.
