Flood Simulation Preparations Intensify in Kano with Multi-Level Stakeholder Engagement

Kano, Nigeria – July 4, 2025

Technical sessions ahead of the upcoming flood simulation exercise in Kano State continued on Wednesday, July 3, 2025, drawing active participation from community stakeholders and emergency responders across multiple levels of government.

The sessions, designed to strengthen disaster preparedness and response coordination, saw robust involvement from State Emergency Management Agencies (SEMAs) of Kano, Jigawa, Katsina, and Yobe States, along with their respective Local Emergency Management Committees (LEMCs).

In a significant show of inter-agency cooperation, Disaster Response Units (DRUs) from the Nigerian Army, Navy, and Air Force also took part in the technical drills. Their participation underscores the importance of a unified response mechanism in mitigating the risks associated with seasonal flooding.

The simulation exercise is being coordinated to evaluate readiness, improve communication protocols, and enhance inter-agency synergy in managing flood-related emergencies in Nigeria’s northern region—an area historically prone to seasonal flooding.

Officials reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that lessons from the technical sessions are integrated into future response plans, ultimately safeguarding lives and property during emergencies.

The flood simulation is expected to culminate in a full-scale exercise involving real-time deployment of resources and personnel in the coming days.
