Foreign Minister Engages Counterparts in Bilateral Talks at FOCAC Meeting in China, Extends Invitation to WAES 2025

Changsha, China – June 11, 2025
On the sidelines of the Ministerial Meeting of Coordinators for the Implementation of Follow-up Actions of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs held bilateral discussions with counterparts from Burkina Faso, Senegal, Niger, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Benin Republic, and Liberia.

The meetings, held in Changsha, focused on enhancing economic cooperation, regional integration, and sustainable development across West Africa. The minister emphasized the need for stronger partnerships and joint initiatives to drive shared prosperity in the sub-region.

A key highlight of the engagements was the formal invitation extended to all attending ministers to participate in the West Africa Economic Summit (WAES), scheduled to hold from June 20–21, 2025, in Abuja. The summit, convened under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is aimed at unlocking private capital, strengthening institutional frameworks, and positioning West Africa as a thriving hub of investment and innovation.

WAES 2025 is expected to attract leaders, investors, and innovators from across the region and beyond to chart a forward-looking economic agenda.
