In a determined move to protect the Nigerian economy, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) under Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘A’ has reinforced its commitment to stamping out economic sabotage, resulting in the arrest of seven suspects this week.
The operation, driven by intelligence and concerted enforcement, also led to the seizure of smuggled goods and cash. The unit recovered a staggering ₦48.34 million in previously lost revenue, alongside undisclosed quantities of contraband, underscoring the scale of illicit activities undermining fiscal stability .
Assistant Comptroller‑General Hussein Ejibunu, coordinating the clampdown, emphasised that FOU ‘A’ will maintain this level of vigilance with sustained raids, border surveillance, and strategic partnerships. He highlighted that the arrests signal the Customs Service’s unwavering resolve to recover every naira lost to smuggling and economic sabotage, aligning with President Tinubu’s broader economic security framework .
Sources within the unit revealed that the suspects are currently undergoing thorough investigation. The Customs Service pledges to pursue full prosecution, warning would‑be saboteurs that the campaign of accountability and enforcement remains in full swing. The move is expected to deter future offenders and shore up national revenue in one of the most proactive stances yet by Zone ‘A’ this year.
