Fountain University Alumnus Secures $600,000 U.S. Grant for Cybersecurity Breakthrough

A former student of Fountain University, Osogbo, Dr. Habeeb Olufowobi, has made Nigeria proud by winning a prestigious $600,000 research grant from the United States to develop cutting-edge cybersecurity solutions for autonomous vehicles.

The breakthrough achievement highlights the quality of education at the Osun State-based institution, with university authorities using the milestone to encourage prospective students to enroll in its Computer Science and Cyber Security programs for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Dr. Olufowobi’s research focuses on protecting self-driving cars from potentially devastating cyberattacks, a critical area as the world moves toward smarter transportation systems. His work will contribute to global efforts in making autonomous vehicle technology safer and more secure.

Fountain University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Amidu Sanni, described the achievement as validation of the institution’s commitment to excellence. “Dr. Olufowobi’s success demonstrates that with the right training and dedication, our graduates can compete on the world stage. We’re proud to have played a role in his academic foundation,” Sanni stated.

The university is now calling on aspiring tech professionals to begin their own journeys at the institution, which offers specialized programs in Computer Science and Cyber Security. Admission requirements include a minimum UTME score of 150 for the upcoming academic session.

“This achievement proves that world-class education and research opportunities exist right here in Nigeria,” said Dr. Adeola Adeleke, Head of the Computer Science Department. “We’re training the next generation of innovators who will solve global challenges.”

The grant award comes at a time when Nigeria is working to strengthen its cybersecurity capabilities and position itself as a hub for technological innovation in Africa. Education analysts suggest Dr. Olufowobi’s achievement may inspire more Nigerian students to pursue careers in the fast-growing fields of computer science and cybersecurity.
