Fountain University, Osogbo (FUO), has once again etched its name in the annals of Nigerian private university sports, finishing an impressive third overall at the 8th edition of the Nigerian Private University Games Association (NPUGA), which recently concluded with fierce competition among institutions from across the country.
The institution’s student-athletes demonstrated extraordinary discipline, drive, and sportsmanship, returning home with a total of 20 medals: 11 gold, 6 silver, and 3 bronze — a haul that firmly secures FUO’s status among the elite sporting private universities in Nigeria. The games, which serve as the largest multi-sport collegiate event for private universities in the country, featured a range of events and witnessed participation from dozens of institutions vying for top honours.
Speaking shortly after the conclusion of the event, the Vice-Chancellor of Fountain University, Professor Olayinka Ramota Karim, praised the athletes for their exceptional commitment and resilience. She extended special commendation to the University’s Chief Coach, Mr. Ganiyu Adedokun, and the rest of the coaching crew for their professional guidance, which she noted was instrumental in the team’s strong showing.
Prof. Karim highlighted that FUO’s outstanding performance reflects its deliberate strategy of providing holistic education — one that balances academic excellence with physical development and talent nurturing. According to her, the medals are not just trophies but symbols of a deeper vision that the university upholds.
