Lagos, Nigeria — August 13, 2025 | In a dramatic turnaround, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has reduced the indefinite flight ban on Fuji music legend King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1, to just one month. The regulatory body also confirmed that ValueJet pilots Captain Oluranti Ogoyi and First Officer Ivan Oloba, earlier suspended over the same incident, will have their licences reinstated after serving the same one-month penalty.
The sanctions stemmed from a recent in-flight episode involving KWAM 1, which authorities said violated standard aviation safety protocols. NCAA explained that the lighter punishment followed reconciliatory efforts and firm commitments from all parties to uphold safety rules moving forward.
In an unexpected twist, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has appointed KWAM 1 as an official ambassador for airport security awareness. The move, aimed at boosting public compliance with aviation regulations, is expected to harness the artist’s popularity to drive home messages on proper passenger conduct.
NCAA reaffirmed that while safety and discipline remain top priorities in the aviation industry, education and rehabilitation will continue to play key roles in its enforcement strategy.
