Abuja, Nigeria — August 12, 2025:
Nigeria and the United States have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral security ties, with renewed focus on counterterrorism, intelligence sharing, and defence modernisation.
The agreement was reinforced during high-level security talks in Abuja between senior Nigerian defence officials and a U.S. delegation. Both nations pledged to intensify joint efforts to combat insurgency, curb transnational crimes, and improve real-time intelligence exchange to address evolving security threats.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the collaboration will also feature technical support for upgrading Nigeria’s military infrastructure, the provision of advanced surveillance technology, and specialised training for security forces.
The U.S. delegation commended Nigeria’s leadership in West African peacekeeping missions and assured continued support for the country’s security reforms. Nigerian officials described the engagement as a strategic boost to the nation’s defence capabilities and a step toward sustainable peace.
Security experts believe the renewed cooperation could significantly enhance Nigeria’s operational readiness, especially in its fight against terrorism and organised crime, while strengthening regional stability.
