Abuja, Nigeria — August 12, 2025:
The Federal Government, in partnership with the Jigawa State Government, has launched a large-scale automotive technology and maintenance training programme to equip 1,500 young Nigerians with modern skills for the evolving auto-mechanics industry.
The initiative, coordinated by the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) alongside the Jigawa State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, will provide practical training in vehicle diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance, while also introducing participants to emerging automotive technologies that align with global industry trends.
Officials say the programme aims to improve employability, reduce youth unemployment, and foster entrepreneurship by enabling graduates to establish their own workshops or secure roles in the country’s growing automotive sector.
Framing it as part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the Federal Government emphasised that skills acquisition remains a critical pillar of sustainable economic growth. Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi hailed the initiative as a timely intervention that will both empower youths and strengthen the state’s technical workforce.
Industry analysts have welcomed the move, noting that building local expertise in automotive technology is essential for Nigeria’s industrialisation drive and for keeping pace with the rapidly changing transport industry.
