The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that 21 people lost their lives in a devastating road accident on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at Kasuwar Dogo Dakatsale, along the busy Zaria-Kano expressway. The tragedy involved a heavy-duty DAF truck and a commercial Toyota Hiace passenger bus, which collided head-on under circumstances linked to a serious traffic violation.
Preliminary findings by the FRSC rescue and crash investigation team revealed that the crash resulted from a route violation by the Toyota Hiace bus driver. The driver was reported to have driven against the designated traffic flow, breaching established road safety regulations, which led to the fatal collision with the oncoming truck.
Out of the 24 individuals involved in the accident, 21 persons—comprising 19 adult males and 2 adult females—were pronounced dead at the scene, while three survivors were rescued with injuries and have been rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, while assuring Nigerians that a thorough investigation into the crash is underway, urged all motorists to strictly adhere to traffic laws. He emphasized that compliance with road safety rules is critical to preventing such avoidable tragedies and restoring sanity and safety on Nigeria’s highways.
This unfortunate incident once again highlights the urgent need for heightened vigilance, responsible driving, and effective enforcement of traffic regulations to safeguard lives on the nation’s roads.
