FRSC Intensifies Clampdown on Overloading to Curb Road Crashes

Abuja, Nigeria – June 14, 2025

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reaffirmed its commitment to reducing road traffic accidents by cracking down on the persistent issue of vehicle overloading across the country.

In a statement issued by the Corps Public Education Officer, the FRSC described overloading as a major contributor to road crashes, which often result in loss of lives and property. The Corps emphasized that tackling overloading is central to its broader strategy of enhancing road safety.

“Overloading remains a significant risk factor on Nigerian roads, increasing the likelihood of crashes and the severity of injuries. We are stepping up enforcement through routine highway checks and collaboration with other transport stakeholders,” the statement read.

The Corps urged motorists and commercial transport operators to comply with weight limits and passenger capacity regulations, warning that violators would face strict penalties in accordance with the law.

The FRSC further called on the public to support its efforts by reporting cases of overloading and unsafe road practices, as part of the shared responsibility in promoting safe travel nationwide.
