The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, on Friday led members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) on a condolence visit to the Governor of Niger State, His Excellency Mohammed Umaru Bago, following the recent devastating flood in Mokwa and banditry attacks in Mariga Local Government Area of the state.
The visit took place at the Niger State Liaison Office in Abuja, where the party leadership expressed its heartfelt sympathy and solidarity with the government and people of Niger State in their moment of grief and difficulty.
Dr. Ganduje described the incidents as “deeply saddening,” noting that the loss of lives, destruction of properties, and displacement of residents were painful tragedies that demanded urgent humanitarian and security interventions.
“We are here not just as leaders of our great party but as fellow Nigerians who share in the sorrow of the good people of Niger State. Our prayers are with the victims, their families, and your administration as you navigate these trying times,” Ganduje stated.
He commended Governor Bago for his swift response in mobilizing relief efforts and coordinating with security agencies to restore calm in the affected communities. He also assured that the party would continue to support both the state and federal governments in bringing lasting solutions to challenges of insecurity and climate-related disasters.
In his response, Governor Bago thanked the APC leadership for the solidarity visit, describing it as a source of strength and encouragement.
“These are very difficult times for our people, especially those in Mokwa and Mariga. We are working round the clock to provide relief materials, resettle displaced persons, and ensure improved security across our vulnerable communities,” he said.
He reiterated the state government’s commitment to tackling insecurity and enhancing environmental preparedness through long-term policies and strategic partnerships.
The condolence visit by the APC leadership comes as the state continues recovery efforts and calls for increased federal support to mitigate the impact of the twin disasters.
