Abeokuta, Nigeria — August 16, 2025 | Ogun State’s Gateway International Airport has made aviation history by becoming the first in Nigeria to receive an Aerodrome Operational Permit from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), marking a major step toward full-scale passenger and cargo operations.
The certification confirms that the facility meets all regulatory and safety requirements in line with global aviation standards. It also positions Ogun State to emerge as a strategic hub for domestic and international air transport, with the potential to boost trade, tourism, and foreign investment in the region.
Governor Dapo Abiodun hailed the milestone as proof of his administration’s commitment to infrastructure expansion and economic diversification. He emphasised that the airport will create thousands of jobs and enhance connectivity between Ogun and key economic destinations.
NCAA Director-General, Capt. Musa Nuhu, commended the state’s strict compliance with operational protocols, noting that the permit followed months of rigorous inspections and verification processes.
Aviation analysts predict that Gateway International Airport’s operational status will attract airlines, logistics providers, and investors, reinforcing Ogun’s role as a key economic corridor in Southwest Nigeria.
