George Akume Remains Secretary to the Government of the Federation — Presidency

Abuja — June 29, 2025

The Presidency has debunked circulating rumours suggesting a change in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), affirming that Senator George Akume remains firmly in his position.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the Presidency clarified that there has been no alteration in the status of Senator Akume, who continues to serve as SGF under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The clarification comes in response to speculation across various media platforms and social circles hinting at an alleged replacement.

“There is no truth whatsoever to the claims making the rounds. Senator George Akume remains the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. The public is advised to disregard any contrary information,” the statement read.

Senator Akume, a former Governor of Benue State and seasoned administrator, was appointed SGF in 2023 and has since been a key figure in driving the policy direction and coordination of the Tinubu-led administration.

The Presidency reiterated its commitment to transparency and responsible communication, urging citizens and media outlets to verify information from official channels to avoid spreading misinformation.
