Globacom Marks Two Decades of Ojude Oba Sponsorship with Grand Cultural Showcase and Customer Rewards

Telecommunications giant, Globacom, has announced elaborate plans to commemorate its 20th anniversary as the chief sponsor of the renowned Ojude Oba Festival, pledging an unforgettable celebration infused with cultural brilliance, top-tier entertainment, and generous customer appreciation initiatives.

This year’s edition of the festival, which is deeply rooted in the cultural identity of the Ijebu people of Ogun State, is themed “Ojude Oba: Celebrating Our Roots, Preserving Our Future.” It is set to hold with grandeur as the company continues its long-standing support of the event, further cementing its role in transforming Ojude Oba into a globally recognized celebration of Yoruba heritage.

Speaking during a press briefing held in Ijebu Ode on Monday, Globacom’s National Commercial Coordinator, Mr. Yomi Ogunbamowo, stated that the milestone 20th anniversary of the telecom company’s sponsorship is a reflection of its enduring commitment to the preservation of indigenous traditions and cultural tourism. He noted that Globacom’s involvement has played a pivotal role in propelling the once-local festival into international limelight.

“This year’s celebration is not just another edition. It marks two decades of consistent partnership, cultural pride, and heritage promotion. For 20 years, Globacom has proudly carried the torch of this iconic tradition, and today, we celebrate a legacy that has not only endured but flourished,” Ogunbamowo declared.

He added that the festival’s increasing prominence has drawn the attention of global cultural institutions, with efforts underway for Ojude Oba to be officially recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as one of Africa’s Heritage Events. According to him, such recognition underscores the festival’s cultural value, and Globacom is proud to have been a part of its evolution.

In what was described as a further expression of its commitment, Globacom also announced the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), extending its sponsorship of Ojude Oba for another ten years. Mr. Ogunbamowo emphasized that this move reaffirms the company’s determination to support the continuity and global promotion of Nigeria’s traditional institutions.

To add colour and excitement to this year’s festivities, Globacom has launched a special consumer promo that promises mouthwatering prizes to loyal subscribers. Among the prizes up for grabs are two brand-new Suzuki Celerio cars, four tricycles, five electricity generators, and ten grinding machines.

One of the vehicles will be awarded to a distinguished community member nominated by residents of Ijebu Ode. Participants are required to send the name and reason for their nomination via the toll-free short code 611. The nominee who receives the highest number of votes will be presented with the vehicle at the grand finale of the festival.

To qualify for the second car prize, a subscriber within the Ijebu axis must accumulate a recharge total of N20,000 during the promo period. Similarly, those who recharge N10,000 in voice and data stand a chance to win a tricycle, while recharges of N5,000 and N2,000 qualify customers for the generator and grinding machine prizes, respectively. The more a subscriber recharges, the higher their chances of winning.

Globacom assured that this year’s celebration would be a blend of rich cultural expression and heartfelt appreciation for its loyal customers, as the brand continues to bridge tradition with innovation in Nigeria’s social and cultural landscape.
