The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, is currently in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where he is attending the prestigious World Police Summit—a global gathering of top law enforcement leaders, security experts, and policing innovators from around the world.
The summit, which convenes annually to foster international collaboration on security challenges, technological innovations, and crime prevention strategies, is widely regarded as one of the foremost platforms for shaping the future of global policing. This year’s edition brings together participants from over 100 countries, underscoring the urgency of unified approaches to transnational crimes, cyber threats, and public safety in a rapidly evolving global landscape.
IGP Egbetokun’s participation not only reaffirms Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening international cooperation on law enforcement but also reflects the Nigerian Police Force’s increasing focus on modernization, intelligence-led policing, and global best practices. According to sources familiar with the summit’s agenda, Nigeria’s police chief is expected to hold strategic side meetings with counterparts from other jurisdictions, discussing issues such as terrorism, trafficking, cybercrime, and innovations in community policing.
Speaking from the summit venue, the IGP commended the UAE government for hosting the high-level gathering, which he described as “a timely platform for knowledge-sharing and cross-border cooperation.” He further noted that Nigeria remains committed to repositioning its police architecture through digital transformation, improved training, and international collaboration.
“Our presence here is not just symbolic—it’s strategic. We are learning, sharing, and contributing to the global conversation on law enforcement, especially as it relates to Africa’s unique challenges and potential,” Egbetokun stated.
The World Police Summit features expert panels, exhibitions, and policy dialogues focused on critical areas such as crime prevention, policing innovation, forensic science, and urban safety. It also provides an opportunity for law enforcement agencies to explore partnerships with global technology firms and security providers.
Security analysts have praised the IGP’s participation, describing it as an important step toward aligning the Nigerian Police Force with evolving global standards. With growing concern over security threats within and across Nigeria’s borders, the summit presents a rare opportunity for Nigeria to contribute to and benefit from cutting-edge discussions on public safety.
As the summit continues, expectations are high that Nigeria’s engagements in Dubai will yield practical outcomes, including technology transfers, capacity-building programs, and deepened ties with international police networks such as INTERPOL and AFRIPOL.
