Gombe Command Tightens Noose on Traffic Offenders and Criminals

This morning, the Gombe State Police Command unveiled a reinforced security operation aimed at tackling traffic infractions and stamping out criminal activity across the metropolis. According to DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the Force’s Public Relations Officer, the clampdown includes the immediate closure of illegal motor parks such as the notorious Dadin Kowa hub, and a strict ban on unauthorized taxi services. All commercial vehicles must now operate solely within the officially designated Ibrahim Hassan Dan‑Kwambo Motor Park, with violators facing arrest, prosecution, impoundment, and heavy fines.

In tandem with these traffic reforms, the police have deployed additional patrol units to intercept unregistered vehicles, those flaunting covered number plates, and motorists abusing sirens, offences that contravene Sections 10(4)(h) and (s) of the FRSC Act 2007 and Sections 36 and 39 of the National Road Traffic Regulations.

The command has also moved to enforce speed limiter regulations and curtail risky motorcycle (okada) operations, citing recent crackdowns and fines imposed on commercial drivers.

Complementing the traffic initiative, anti‑crime squads have intensified raids in known hotspots. Just this March, officers apprehended nine suspected criminals, two detained for cannabis possession and seven more for alleged robbery and intimidation across Gombe metropolis.

The Gombe Police emphasised that the combined measures are all part of a broader strategy to restore order, decongest road networks, protect commuters, and enhance public safety. Citizens have been urged to report illegal loading, covered plates, or suspicious persons, while operators have been cautioned that non‑compliance will trigger firm legal consequences.

In summary, the Gombe Police Command has thrown the full weight of law enforcement behind this dual-front offensive, combining traffic regulation and criminal patrols—to deliver a safer, more orderly environment for residents and travellers alike.
