Governor Abba Yusuf Pledges Sustainable Water Supply for Rano Town Amid Decades-Long Crisis –

Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has issued a directive to the Ministry of Water Resources to ensure a sustainable and uninterrupted water supply to Rano Town, which has suffered severe water shortages for decades. The governor made this commitment on Thursday while receiving the Emir of Rano, Ambassador Dr. Muhammad Umar, during a Sallah homage at the Government House in Kano.

In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, Governor Yusuf assured the Emir that concrete measures were being implemented to resolve the town’s perennial water crisis. “We want to inform you that on the issue of water supply, we have made significant progress. I have directed the Commissioner of Water Resources to engage experts to tap water from Tiga Dam to supply Rano Town,” Yusuf said.

The governor highlighted plans to construct boreholes in collaboration with the local government despite the challenging rocky terrain of the area. Advanced surveying techniques will be employed to detect underground aquifers and ensure a steady flow of potable water. This aligns with broader efforts by the Kano State Government, which has already commenced laying a 42-kilometer pipeline from Tiga Dam to Rano as part of its strategy to permanently address the town’s water scarcity.

Governor Yusuf also reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving critical sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, environmental development, education, and women and youth empowerment. He extended his condolences to the Emir over the recent killing of Kano indigenes in Uromi, Edo State, commending the monarch for his role in maintaining peace and reassuring affected families that justice would prevail. “Had it not been for the wise intervention of the Emir, only God knows what could have happened,” Yusuf remarked.

The Emir of Rano expressed gratitude for the ongoing developmental projects in his emirate and urged sustained efforts in addressing water supply challenges. He also commended Governor Yusuf for responding promptly to concerns over the five-kilometer road project in Rano, which had stalled due to inefficiency. The replacement of the contractor has resulted in significant progress on the project.

This renewed focus on infrastructure and public welfare reflects Governor Yusuf’s determination to transform Kano State through practical solutions and collaborative governance. With projects like the Tiga Dam pipeline underway and borehole construction expanding across local governments, hopes are high that Rano Town’s decades-long struggle with water scarcity will soon become a thing of the past.
