GOVERNOR ABIODUN CALLS FOR INCREASED PERFORMANCE FROM OGUN CIVIL SERVANTS

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has issued a strong directive to civil servants across the state, emphasizing the need for greater accountability and improved service delivery in the public sector.

The Governor made these remarks yesterday during an unscheduled visit to the state secretariat in Abeokuta, where he interacted with workers across various departments and assessed their level of productivity.

“The success of our administration’s development agenda depends heavily on the efficiency and dedication of our civil service,” Governor Abiodun stated while addressing senior civil servants. “The people of Ogun State deserve nothing less than excellent service from those paid from the public purse.”

Sources close to the Governor revealed that the surprise inspection was prompted by reports of absenteeism, lateness, and declining productivity within some government ministries, departments, and agencies. During his tour, the Governor reportedly discovered some offices empty during official working hours.

The Head of Service, Dr. Olufemi Adegoke, who accompanied the Governor during the visit, assured that necessary measures would be implemented to address the concerns raised. “We take the Governor’s observations very seriously and will work to ensure that civil servants uphold the highest standards of professionalism and dedication,” Dr. Adegoke stated.

Civil service unions in the state have responded positively to the Governor’s call for improved productivity but also highlighted challenges facing workers, including delayed promotions and inadequate working conditions in some offices.

“We welcome the Governor’s focus on accountability and are committed to supporting his vision for a more efficient civil service,” said Comrade Ibrahim Lawal, chairman of one of the workers’ unions. “However, we also hope that the government will address workers’ welfare concerns to boost morale and productivity.”

Several civil servants who spoke with our reporter expressed their commitment to supporting the Governor’s vision for a more productive civil service. Mrs. Adejoke Olusola, a senior officer in the Ministry of Education, said, “Most of us are dedicated to our duties and welcome any initiative that recognizes and rewards hard work.”

Governor Abiodun’s demand for increased accountability comes as part of his administration’s broader reform agenda aimed at repositioning the state for economic growth and improved service delivery. Political observers note that the Governor’s focus on civil service efficiency could significantly impact the implementation of his development projects across the state.
The Governor also announced plans to introduce a new performance management system
