Governor Abiodun Commissions Southern Nigeria’s First Digital Innovation Park in Ogun

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has unveiled what is being described as southern Nigeria’s first Digital Innovation Park, positioning the state at the forefront of digital transformation and entrepreneurship in the country. The groundbreaking facility, constructed by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), was officially inaugurated on Wednesday along the Kobape Road corridor in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Governor Abiodun, speaking at the commissioning ceremony, described the innovation park as a pivotal step in the actualisation of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, particularly in the areas of digital inclusion, youth empowerment, economic diversification, and technological advancement. He noted that the establishment of the centre underscores Ogun State’s ambition to lead in innovation, technology-driven growth, and modern skills development.

“This facility, the first of its kind in southern Nigeria, is more than a building—it is the nucleus of innovation, a hub for skills development, and a launchpad for digital entrepreneurship that will not only serve Ogun State but also benefit the entire southern region,” the governor stated.

Highlighting the park’s significance, Abiodun explained that it aligns with the broader vision to transform Ogun into a digitally empowered society, one that fully harnesses the power of technology to stimulate job creation, economic stability, and an improved quality of life for citizens. He added that digital innovation has moved from being a luxury to becoming the very foundation upon which a resilient and globally competitive economy must be built.

According to the governor, the facility stands as a testament to the productive collaboration between federal and state governments, affirming a shared resolve to empower young Nigerians with the tools needed to thrive in the digital era.

He said the park represents a bold commitment to supporting home-grown technology solutions, fostering entrepreneurship, and equipping the youth with the skills to contribute meaningfully to national development.

On his part, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, said the initiative was a direct expression of President Tinubu’s vision to elevate Nigeria to the ranks of globally competitive digital economies. He said the government was focused on building solid foundations through broadband expansion, talent development, and frameworks for emerging technologies like artificial intelligence.

Dr Tijani noted that the innovation park was not just a symbolic structure but a gateway to equitable access to digital opportunities. “Shared prosperity must be built on shared access to opportunity. That is what this innovation park symbolises—access to a bigger, better future,” he said.

Also speaking, the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Dr Aminu Maida, described the park as a landmark achievement that will significantly expand the reach of ICT, deepen research and innovation capabilities, and serve as a driver of sustainable economic growth.

He stressed that the facility would empower tech startups, stimulate local innovation, and bolster Nigeria’s digital ecosystem in alignment with national objectives.

The unveiling of the park marks another stride in Ogun State’s march towards becoming a major technology and innovation hub, reinforcing its role as a strategic player in Nigeria’s digital future.
