September 1, 2025 – Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago of Niger State has approved the dissolution of the State Executive Council, bringing an end to the appointments of all commissioners and senior political office holders.
The directive, which took immediate effect, affects members of the cabinet as well as special advisers and other top aides who had been serving in various capacities since the beginning of the administration.
Governor Bago’s decision is seen as part of ongoing efforts to restructure his government for improved service delivery and alignment with his development agenda. The move comes amid expectations that a new team will soon be announced to drive policies across key sectors in the state.
He expressed gratitude to the outgoing officials for their contributions and urged them to continue supporting his administration in its bid to transform Niger State.
Political observers note that cabinet reshuffles and dissolutions are not unusual midway into an administration, often paving the way for the inclusion of fresh hands and realignment of political interests.
