Gusau — Zamfara State Governor, Dr. Dauda Lawal, has officially endorsed the appointment of Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim Bello as the new Emir of the historic Gusau Emirate, following the approval of the kingmakers and the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
The announcement, which was made public through a government statement issued in Gusau, marks a significant transition in the leadership of one of Zamfara’s foremost traditional institutions. The newly appointed Emir, Alhaji Bello, succeeds the late Emir Ibrahim Bello, who passed on recently, leaving behind a legacy of service to the emirate and the state.
Governor Lawal, in his remarks, expressed confidence in the new Emir’s capacity to promote peace, unity, and socio-cultural development within the emirate and beyond. He noted that the selection process was conducted with due regard for tradition, transparency, and wide consultations among stakeholders, including members of the royal family and Gusau Emirate Council.
Born and raised within the royal lineage of Gusau, Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim Bello is known for his extensive knowledge of Islamic jurisprudence and local customs. His appointment is widely seen as a unifying step in consolidating the emirate’s historical relevance amidst growing demands for responsible and culturally grounded leadership in the region.
The Emir’s confirmation comes at a time when Zamfara is navigating challenges related to security, development, and community cohesion. Stakeholders within the state have expressed optimism that his leadership will serve as a stabilizing force, especially at the grassroots level.
As preparations begin for the formal turbanning ceremony, which is expected to draw traditional rulers, government dignitaries, and community leaders from across Nigeria, residents of Gusau have begun expressing goodwill messages and prayers for a peaceful and prosperous reign.
