Governor Fintiri Shuts Down IDP Camp in Yola South, Inaugurates 21-Member Relief and Recovery Committee After Flood Disaster”

The Adamawa State Government has officially closed the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp located in Yola South Local Government Area following the receding of floodwaters in 13 affected communities across the area. The closure comes after displaced residents began returning to their homes and nearby settlements in the wake of improved environmental conditions.

The devastating flood, which claimed no fewer than 26 lives, wreaked havoc on several communities in the state, leaving behind a trail of destruction. As part of a comprehensive response to the crisis, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has announced the formation of a 21-member Relief and Post-Recovery Committee to coordinate government efforts in supporting the victims and rebuilding affected areas.

The committee is chaired by the Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, and is tasked with overseeing relief distribution and developing long-term strategies for recovery and disaster mitigation. The governor, through a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, urged members of the committee to approach their responsibilities with dedication, fairness, and transparency.

Governor Fintiri emphasized that his administration remains fully committed to the safety and well-being of all residents of Adamawa State, particularly those impacted by the recent natural disaster. He charged the committee with not only delivering immediate relief materials to victims but also recommending sustainable solutions to prevent future occurrences of such tragedies.

The governor’s statement reiterated the need for diligent execution of post-flood interventions, stressing that the committee’s work should ultimately restore hope and stability to families and communities that have endured immense hardship. He assured that the state government would leave no stone unturned in its efforts to ensure that the affected communities recover swiftly and are better protected in the future.

This decisive move by the Fintiri-led government signals a shift from emergency response to recovery planning, as the state looks toward rehabilitating infrastructure, restoring livelihoods, and reinforcing disaster preparedness systems across vulnerable regions.
