Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has taken a bold step toward industrial revitalization by making a formal offer to acquire the long-abandoned Star Paper Mill in Aba, with the intention of restoring the once-thriving facility to operational status.
Governor Otti revealed the move as part of his administration’s broader economic recovery and industrialization agenda, aimed at boosting local production, creating jobs, and enhancing Aba’s status as a hub for manufacturing and enterprise in the South East.
The Star Paper Mill, once a major employer and contributor to the state’s economy, has remained dormant for years due to mismanagement and infrastructural decay. Governor Otti expressed confidence that with strategic investment and private-sector partnerships, the facility can be restored to its former glory.
He emphasized that reviving the paper mill would not only reduce dependence on imported paper products but also contribute significantly to Abia’s GDP and environmental sustainability through local paper recycling initiatives.
The state government is currently engaging with relevant stakeholders and investors to ensure a seamless buyback process and sustainable resuscitation of the mill.
