Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, fondly referred to as the “Farmer Governor” due to his strong advocacy for agricultural development, has reiterated his commitment to the success of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming local government elections. He made this known while declaring his unwavering support for the party’s flag bearer contesting the chairmanship seat of Chanchaga Local Government Area.
Governor Bago, who has consistently championed grassroots political engagement and development-focused governance, assured party stakeholders and supporters that the APC candidate would receive full government backing in the run-up to the polls. He expressed confidence that the candidate, whose emergence followed an internal democratic process within the party, possesses the credibility and experience required to deliver effective leadership at the local level.
Speaking at a strategic meeting with party leaders, youths, and community stakeholders in Minna, the state capital, the Governor emphasized the importance of continuity in progressive governance. He noted that Chanchaga LGA, being one of the most politically significant areas in the state, must remain under the control of the APC to ensure alignment with the state’s development agenda.
Governor Bago also encouraged party loyalists to intensify their grassroots mobilization, stressing that local government elections remain a critical component of democratic consolidation in Nigeria. He affirmed that his administration would continue to empower local governments with the necessary tools and autonomy to deliver on key mandates, particularly in rural development, primary healthcare, and basic education.
As the council elections draw closer, political activity across Chanchaga LGA has intensified, with the APC positioning itself as the party to beat. Governor Bago’s endorsement is seen by many observers as a major boost for the APC’s chances, especially in a local government that plays a strategic role in the political architecture of Niger State.
