Governor Umo Eno Applauds Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Calls It a Catalyst for Economic Transformation

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government for their commitment to the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, describing it as a transformative infrastructure initiative that will unlock immense economic opportunities across Nigeria’s coastal states. The 750-kilometer highway, which traverses eight states, including Akwa Ibom, is expected to redefine connectivity and commerce in the region.

Governor Eno expressed his appreciation during the flag-off ceremony of the construction of a 65-kilometer, three-lane dual carriageway segment of the highway at Ikot Asua Village in Nsit Atai Local Government Area. This segment forms part of the larger Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, which promises to enhance interstate commerce and stimulate development in previously inaccessible areas.

Highlighting the significance of the project, Governor Eno stated that Akwa Ibom residents are fortunate beneficiaries of this monumental undertaking. He noted that the highway could have been routed through other coastal states but emphasized its strategic importance to Akwa Ibom’s economy. “We do not take this gesture for granted,” he remarked, adding that the road will ease the movement of goods and services while fostering regional integration.

Governor Eno outlined several benefits of the highway, including its potential to boost small and medium-scale enterprises, create employment opportunities, and encourage interstate trade. He also emphasized its role in fostering unity among communities by erasing boundaries and improving accessibility. Sections 3A and 3B of the project, which cut across Akwa Ibom and Cross River States, are expected to deliver enormous benefits to both states.

The governor praised President Tinubu’s inclusive leadership and commitment to equitable development across Nigeria. He also assured the President of Akwa Ibom’s unwavering support for his administration, stressing that such backing would enable him to complete ongoing projects nationwide. “Our prayer is good health for Mr. President to finish the work he has started and commission it,” Governor Eno said.

Governor Eno urged youths in Akwa Ibom to cooperate with contractors handling the project and maintain peace in their communities. He also pledged to work closely with the Minister of Works to ensure timely compensation for affected property owners once funds are released by the Federal Government.

The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, lauded Governor Eno’s dedication to infrastructure development in Akwa Ibom State, describing him as a leader committed to delivering quality projects that benefit his people. Umahi emphasized that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway would significantly enhance economic activities and accessibility across Nigeria’s coastal corridor.

Other dignitaries at the event, including Rt. Hon. Mark Esset (Member representing Uyo Federal Constituency), Hon. Anthony Nyong (Executive Chairman of Nsit Atai LGA), and HRM Okokon Ita (Paramount Ruler of Okobo), expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for prioritizing this landmark project. They pledged their support for its timely completion and acknowledged its potential to transform their communities.

The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway remains a cornerstone of President Tinubu’s infrastructure agenda, promising to foster regional connectivity and drive economic growth along Nigeria’s coastline. As construction progresses steadily, stakeholders are optimistic about its transformative impact on trade, tourism, and development in Akwa Ibom State and beyond.
