Kano – June 12, 2025
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has commended the swift intervention of emergency response agencies for successfully averting a major fire disaster following a petrol tanker incident in the state.
The near-tragedy occurred on Wednesday at a densely populated area in Kano metropolis when a loaded fuel tanker developed a mechanical fault and began to leak highly inflammable contents, raising fears of an explosion.
Responders from the Kano State Fire Service, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) arrived promptly on the scene, cordoned off the area, and safely contained the situation without any reported casualties or damage to nearby structures.
Governor Yusuf, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, praised the emergency teams for their professionalism, speed, and coordination.
“Their swift response prevented what could have been a catastrophic disaster. I commend their dedication to duty and urge continued vigilance in ensuring the safety of lives and property,” he said.
The Governor also called on petroleum tanker operators to adhere strictly to safety regulations and vehicle maintenance standards to prevent future occurrences.
