An explosion rocked the yard of the Norwegian ambassador’s residence in Tel Aviv on Thursday evening, as a grenade was reportedly hurled into the compound, officials confirmed. Fortunately, there were no injuries sustained in the incident, according to statements from both Norwegian and Israeli authorities.
Tuva Bogsnes, Head of Communications at the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told AFP that the blast occurred outside the ambassador’s home, but reassured that no embassy personnel were harmed. Israeli police swiftly responded to the scene and have launched an investigation into the attack.
Israel’s Foreign Minister, Gideon Saar, took to social media platform X to condemn the act, describing it as a “serious and dangerous crime.” Saar also revealed he had reached out to Norway’s ambassador to Israel, Per Egil Selvaag, to express solidarity in the wake of the attack, which involved what was identified as a shrapnel grenade.
The incident underscores the growing security concerns in the region amid rising tensions, as diplomatic missions become potential targets in the escalating conflict. Both Israeli authorities and Norwegian diplomats have vowed to ensure the safety of foreign envoys while pursuing those responsible for the attack.
