In a major update that will delight frequent travellers and online shoppers, Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) has restored international transaction functionality on its Naira-denominated debit cards, allowing customers to once again spend abroad with ease.
According to official communication from the bank, GTBank’s Naira cards are now globally active, permitting usage for Point-of-Sale (POS) and online transactions outside Nigeria. This comes after months of restricted access to international spending due to foreign exchange constraints in the Nigerian banking sector.
Under the revised spending limits, Platinum Naira Card holders now enjoy up to $4,000 monthly for international POS and online transactions. Meanwhile, standard Naira card users can access up to $1,000 for similar transactions. These transactions are subject to applicable terms and conditions, including prevailing exchange rates and regulatory guidelines.
The move signals growing stability in the foreign exchange management framework and is expected to boost consumer confidence, especially for individuals involved in cross-border payments for travel, education, subscriptions, and e-commerce.
While GTBank has not disclosed whether this reactivation will be permanent, the decision is being welcomed as a positive sign for both retail and corporate customers who rely on seamless global financial access.
Customers are encouraged to contact the bank or visit its official platforms for more details on eligibility, activation, and usage requirements.
