United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has called for immediate and decisive steps to halt the wars in Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan and other parts of the Middle East, warning that continued hostilities are fueling severe humanitarian crises.
Speaking at UN Headquarters in New York, Guterres stressed the urgent need for ceasefires, humanitarian access and renewed political commitment to international law. He criticised the paralysis of the UN Security Council, noting that its inability to act has allowed devastating conflicts to persist.
The Secretary-General reiterated that protecting civilians, ensuring the delivery of aid and pursuing durable political solutions are essential to ending the suffering. He urged member states to intensify diplomatic efforts and consider reforms to strengthen the global peace and security framework.
