HAJJ 2025: Lagos Pilgrims Lift State and Nation in Prayers at Mount Arafah

MOUNT ARAFAH, SAUDI ARABIA – June 6, 2025

As the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage reached its spiritual peak, hundreds of Muslim faithful from Lagos State joined millions of others from around the world at the sacred plains of Arafah, where they fervently prayed for peace, prosperity, and divine guidance for both Lagos State and Nigeria.

Dressed in white garments symbolising purity and equality before God, the pilgrims gathered under the scorching sun in an atmosphere of solemnity and reverence. Voices rose in unison as prayers were offered for the continued growth of Lagos, divine wisdom for its leaders, and healing for a nation grappling with economic and security challenges.

The Lagos State Amir-ul-Hajj, Hon. (Dr.) Olanrewaju AbdulHakeem, who led the delegation, described the moment at Arafah as both spiritually fulfilling and nationally significant.

“This is not just a personal spiritual exercise; it is a moment of intercession for our dear state and country. We prayed for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his team, and the entire people of Lagos. We also sought God’s mercy and intervention in Nigeria’s economic and security situation,” AbdulHakeem said.

The Chairman of the Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Imam Shakiru Gafar, also expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the state’s pilgrims, commending their discipline and unity since the commencement of the holy exercise.

He noted that Lagos pilgrims have continued to serve as good ambassadors, upholding the values of peace, cleanliness, and orderliness — qualities the state has consistently maintained during previous Hajj operations.

This year’s pilgrimage marks a renewed emphasis by the Lagos State Government on improving pilgrim welfare through better accommodation, feeding arrangements, and prompt medical care — all coordinated in partnership with the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).

Mount Arafah, also known as the “Mount of Mercy,” is the site where Prophet Muhammad (SAW) delivered his Farewell Sermon over 1,400 years ago. The Day of Arafah remains one of the most sacred dates in the Islamic calendar, and standing at Arafah is a compulsory rite of Hajj.

As dusk fell over the sacred mountain, the spirit of unity, hope, and patriotism filled the air — echoing the heartfelt prayers of Lagos pilgrims for a brighter, stronger, and more united Nigeria.
