Hajj 2025: Ogun Pilgrims Urged to Embrace Spiritual Discipline Ahead of Major Islamic Rites

As the 2025 Hajj season reaches its peak, pilgrims from Ogun State have been charged to approach the forthcoming spiritual exercises with utmost dedication, discipline, and reverence. The sacred rites are scheduled to begin on the 8th day of Dhu al-Hijjah 1446 AH, corresponding to Wednesday, June 4, 2025, on the Gregorian calendar.

This admonition was delivered by the Chairman of the Ogun State 2025 Hajj Ad-Hoc Committee, Alhaji Iziaq Oloungbebe, during an orientation lecture held for pilgrims from both Ogun and Lagos States in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The session, which commenced on the first day of the Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijjah, will continue on May 30, June 1, and June 3, 2025, to further guide pilgrims on the proper conduct during Hajj.

Alhaji Oloungbebe explained that the rites would commence after the early morning prayer on the 8th of Dhu al-Hijjah. Pilgrims are expected to perform a ritual bath, symbolising purification, and then re-enter a state of Ihram by donning the prescribed two-piece white garment and formally declaring their intention to perform Hajj, similar to the process observed during Umrah.

He emphasized that once in the state of Ihram, certain restrictions become binding on all pilgrims. These include refraining from cutting hair or nails, avoiding the use of perfumes, and abstaining from wearing sewn clothing or head coverings for men. Other prohibitions include hunting animals and any form of intimate relations or discussions, all of which are considered violations during the sacred period.

Following the declaration of Ihram, pilgrims will be transported to Mina where they are expected to observe the five daily prayers, culminating with the early morning prayer of the 9th Dhu al-Hijjah before proceeding to the plains of Arafat for one of the most important aspects of the pilgrimage.

The Chairman also called on pilgrims to devote ample time to prayers, particularly for peace, stability, and progress in Nigeria. He offered special prayers for Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, and other national leaders, seeking divine guidance and development for the country.

Similarly, the Amir Hajj for Ogun State, Alhaji Samsudeen Apelogun, alongside the Governor’s Consultant on Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Iskeel Lawal, urged pilgrims to prioritise their health, conserve energy, and adhere strictly to all guidelines provided for a successful Hajj.

In their reactions, some of the pilgrims expressed appreciation to the Ogun State government for the continuous enlightenment efforts. Alhaji Kazeem Babatunde and Alhaja Aminat Bakare commended the officials for equipping them with necessary spiritual knowledge, which they said has made them more confident and prepared for the rigorous but spiritually fulfilling journey ahead.

As the Hajj enters a crucial phase, the message from Ogun’s officials remains clear: complete devotion, proper conduct, and spiritual focus are the keys to a successful and acceptable pilgrimage.
