Hajj 2025: Sanwo-Olu Sponsors Free Medical Screening for 1,400 Intending Pilgrims

As part of preparations for the 2025 Hajj, the Lagos State Government has launched a free medical screening program for 1,400 intending pilgrims. The initiative, sponsored by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, aims to ensure the health and safety of pilgrims before their journey to Saudi Arabia.

The screening exercise, organized by the Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, kicked off on Saturday at the Badagry Local Government Secretariat for pilgrims from Badagry and Ojo LGAs. Commissioner for Home Affairs, Hon. Ibrahim Layode, emphasized that the screening is mandatory, warning that anyone who fails to participate may not be cleared for the pilgrimage.

Layode reiterated the government’s commitment to a healthier Lagos, noting that decentralizing the screening process makes it more accessible. He added that early detection of health conditions would help prevent complications during the Hajj.

He also encouraged the intending pilgrims to pray for Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu, Governor Sanwo-Olu, and other leaders, urging them to be worthy ambassadors of Lagos State.

Mr. AbdulHakeem Ajomagberin, Secretary of the Pilgrims Welfare Board, highlighted that good health is a prerequisite for the pilgrimage and a foundation for a fulfilled life.

Grateful for the initiative, many pilgrims expressed appreciation for the government’s effort.

“We are sincerely grateful to the Lagos State Government,” he said. “This initiative has given us access to quality medical care before our journey, and we hope it continues in the future.” One of the intending pilgrims said.
