The Federal Ministry of Health has dismissed a widely circulated online video claiming the discovery of a “revolutionary drug” capable of permanently curing diabetes, warning Nigerians to disregard the content as fake news.
In a statement issued on Monday, the ministry clarified that no such treatment has been approved or validated by health authorities in Nigeria or internationally. Officials emphasized that diabetes remains a chronic condition that requires proper medical management and lifestyle adjustments, urging the public to rely solely on verified medical advice from qualified professionals.
The ministry also cautioned that unverified medical claims, particularly those spread through social media, can endanger lives by misleading patients into abandoning prescribed treatments. Nigerians were reminded to seek credible information from the Federal Ministry of Health, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), and other recognized health institutions.
The government reiterated its commitment to public health safety, warning that individuals or groups found to be promoting false medical claims could face legal consequences under national laws against the spread of misinformation.
