Lagos — June 12, 2025
Security operatives were deployed across key locations in Lagos on Wednesday as protesters marked Democracy Day with public demonstrations demanding improved governance, economic reforms, and accountability.
The protest, which drew a mix of civil society groups, students, and concerned citizens, saw participants gather in areas like Ojota, Ikeja, and the Lekki axis. The demonstrators carried placards with messages addressing rising living costs, insecurity, and social injustice.
Photos circulating online, including those shared by Politics Nigeria, show armed police officers and other security personnel stationed strategically to maintain order and prevent any breakdown of law and order.
Despite the tense atmosphere, the protest remained largely peaceful, with no major incidents reported as of the time of filing this report.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the demonstrations.
