June 16, 2025 | Tehran, Iran –
Iranian police authorities have reported significant traffic congestion at major exit points from Tehran as tensions escalate amid ongoing hostilities between Iran and Israel.
In a statement released early Monday, the Tehran Traffic Police Command confirmed that unusual volumes of vehicles were seen moving toward the city’s outskirts, particularly on highways leading to Karaj, Qom, and Semnan.
Officials attribute the congestion to heightened public anxiety following recent missile exchanges and drone strikes between the two nations, with many residents opting to evacuate or temporarily relocate from the capital.
“We are witnessing sustained vehicular movement out of Tehran, especially through the southwest and eastern corridors,” a police spokesperson said. “Our officers are on the ground to manage the flow and ensure safety.”
There has been no formal evacuation order issued by the government, but authorities have urged citizens to remain calm and follow official security advisories.
Security has also been increased around strategic locations and public infrastructure in Tehran, with military checkpoints and surveillance reported across key routes.
The surge in traffic underscores growing public unease amid escalating rhetoric and military action between Iran and Israel, prompting international calls for de-escalation and diplomacy.
