Heavy Traffic Snarls Lagos-Ibadan Expressway as Multi-Vehicle Crash Blocks Kara Bridge

Thousands of motorists and commuters were left stranded on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Friday morning following a multi-vehicle accident at the Kara Bridge, near the inward OPIC axis of the busy highway connecting Lagos to other parts of Nigeria. The crash involved several trucks and cars, causing a major gridlock that stretched back to the Otedola Bridge and further towards Mowe and the 7-Up area of Lagos State. Emergency responders, including personnel from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Nigeria Police Force, quickly mobilized to the scene to assist victims and clear the wreckage. While no fatalities have been confirmed, some injuries were reported. LASTMA confirmed the incident via social media, urging motorists to remain patient as efforts to remove the affected vehicles continue. By midday, two lanes had been reopened to ease the traffic, but the articulated truck involved was still being evacuated. The accident adds to the growing list of crashes on this heavily trafficked expressway, which has seen frequent incidents involving large trucks despite recent upgrades to the road infrastructure. Commuters caught in the gridlock resorted to trekking to their destinations or waited for hours as the traffic jam persisted.
