HEFAMAA Strengthens Collaborations to Boost Healthcare Quality in Lagos

July 7, 2025

In a renewed drive to improve healthcare delivery across Lagos State, the Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA) has expressed its commitment to forging stronger partnerships with stakeholders to elevate healthcare standards.

Speaking at a strategic engagement session with public and private health sector leaders in Ikeja on Monday, the Executive Secretary of HEFAMAA, Dr. Abiola Idowu, emphasized the need for collaboration in ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and promoting best practices across all health facilities in the state.

“We cannot achieve sustainable progress in healthcare without shared responsibility. HEFAMAA is calling on all stakeholders — from hospital managers to community leaders — to join hands in creating a safer and more responsive health system,” Dr. Idowu stated.

The agency highlighted several key areas where partnership is vital, including prompt reporting of unregistered or substandard facilities, support for continuous training of medical personnel, and advocacy for ethical healthcare practices.

Dr. Idowu also noted that HEFAMAA is intensifying its monitoring efforts and will continue to apply sanctions where necessary to protect citizens from quackery and medical negligence.

Participants at the meeting, including representatives from professional medical associations, civil society organizations, and the Ministry of Health, welcomed the agency’s proactive stance and pledged support for its regulatory efforts.

This renewed engagement aligns with the Lagos State Government’s broader health reform under the T.H.E.M.E.S+ agenda, aimed at delivering accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare to residents.
