Hisbah Dismantles Alleged ‘Holy Site’ in Kano Attracting Pilgrims Seeking Mud Water with Supposed Healing Powers

The Kano State Hisbah Board has dismantled a makeshift pilgrimage site that drew crowds of people seeking to drink and collect mud water believed to have divine healing properties. The site, located near the Dakata Industrial Area, gained attention after a muddy footprint-like mark appeared on the ground alongside seeping water. Rumors quickly spread claiming the spot bore the footprint of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), despite no historical or religious evidence to support the claim. Drawn by the belief in its sanctity, hundreds of people reportedly flocked to the area to drink, bathe in, and collect the water.

In response, the Deputy Commander of the Hisbah Board, Muhahideen Aminudeen, said the board acted swiftly after receiving reports of the growing crowds and activities at the site.“This false story that the Prophet set foot there was spread by mischief makers,” he said. “Many people, lacking sound Islamic knowledge, were misled. We sent officers to educate the public and dismantle the site to prevent further harm.”Aminudeen stressed that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) never visited Africa, including Kano, during his lifetime. He warned that such misinformation could mislead the public and pose health risks, particularly due to the site’s proximity to industrial zones. He also advised residents to avoid consuming the water, as its safety could not be guaranteed. The board has launched an investigation into the origins of the false claims and urged the public to seek authentic Islamic education to guard against similar incidents in the future.
