IBC Boss Ify Onyegbule Honoured with Chieftaincy Title in Orlu for Outstanding Contributions to Broadcasting

The Director General of the Imo State Broadcasting Corporation (IBC), Ms. Ify Onyegbule, has been honoured with a prestigious chieftaincy title in recognition of her impactful contributions to the broadcasting industry and her efforts to celebrate veteran media practitioners in the state.

The title “Ada Di Ora Nma” of Orlu, which translates to “Daughter Who Is Loved by the People,” was conferred on Ms. Onyegbule by His Royal Majesty, Eze (Dr.) Thomas Obiwuru Obiefule, the Okairuro and Ezekaibeya of Umudioka Royal Dynasty in Orlu, Imo State. The conferment took place during a grand ceremony marking the monarch’s 83rd birthday and 43rd anniversary on the throne.

Speaking at the event, Eze Obiefule highlighted that the chieftaincy title was a tribute to Onyegbule’s exceptional leadership, particularly her initiative during the recent IBC Golden Voices Award, which recognized and honoured veteran broadcasters who had significantly contributed to the growth of the media in Imo State. According to the monarch, the event restored dignity to those who had long been forgotten and showcased a spirit of gratitude rarely seen in public service.

“No Director General before her had taken such a bold step in celebrating the unsung heroes of IBC,” Eze Obiefule remarked. “The title ‘Ada Di Ora Nma’ is not just honorary—it reflects a personality who is truly admired and loved by the people. Her actions have rekindled hope and respect for those who came before her, and that kind of gesture does not go unnoticed in our land.”

The traditional ruler praised Onyegbule for recognizing the legacy of her predecessors and fostering a sense of continuity and appreciation within the organization. He noted that her humility and vision serve as an inspiration, especially for young women pursuing careers in broadcasting and public administration.

In her response, an elated Chief Ify Onyegbule expressed heartfelt gratitude to the monarch and the people of Umudioka for the honour bestowed upon her, noting the significance of receiving such a revered title despite not being an indigene of the community. She described the recognition as a powerful motivation to continue giving her best in service to the state and the media sector.

“I am deeply honoured by this recognition, and I do not take it for granted,” Onyegbule said. “This is indeed a huge honour, especially as I do not come from Orlu. Your Majesty, I thank you and your people sincerely. I assure you that I will not betray the confidence you’ve placed in me. I remain committed to the job and to making IBC a platform that continues to grow and serve its people with pride.”

The colourful event drew dignitaries, traditional leaders, media professionals, and members of the Orlu community, who applauded the conferment and described Onyegbule’s leadership as a breath of fresh air in the state-owned media outfit.

The chieftaincy title further cements Ms. Ify Onyegbule’s reputation as a leader who values heritage, fosters inclusivity, and sets a benchmark for excellence in public service and broadcasting in Imo State.
