ICAN Welcomes 1,328 New Accounting Technicians, Celebrates Top Performers

News Report – July 23, 2025

In a significant stride toward strengthening the accounting profession in Nigeria and the West African region, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has formally inducted 1,328 new members into the Accounting Technicians Scheme West Africa (ATSWA).

The induction ceremony, which held in Lagos on Tuesday, was marked by celebration and recognition of excellence, as the Institute also honoured top achievers who distinguished themselves during the qualifying examinations.

President of ICAN, Dr. Innocent Okwuosa, congratulated the new inductees and charged them to uphold the ethics and professional standards of the accounting profession. He emphasized that their entry into the ATSWA cadre is not just a personal achievement but a call to responsibility and national development.

“The Institute remains committed to producing world-class accounting professionals who are technically sound, ethically upright, and globally competitive,” Dr. Okwuosa stated. He added that ICAN will continue to invest in the future of the profession through innovation, capacity building, and collaboration with key stakeholders across West Africa.

Also speaking at the ceremony, the Registrar/Chief Executive of ICAN, Prof. Ahmed Kumshe, encouraged the inductees to pursue higher qualifications, including the chartered accounting route, and remain diligent in their career paths.

Family members, employers, and educators gathered in celebration of the newly inducted technicians, whose professional journey has now taken a new leap forward in the ever-evolving financial and economic landscape.
