The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has officially inaugurated its 61st President, reaffirming its dedication to professionalism, transparency, and integrity in Nigeria’s financial and accounting sectors.
The inauguration ceremony, held at ICAN’s Victoria Island headquarters, was attended by leading figures in finance, government, and academia. The new president, whose tenure begins at a time of economic reform and digital transformation across Nigeria, pledged to uphold the institute’s core values while prioritizing strategic innovation, youth mentorship, and national economic development.
In his acceptance speech, the 61st ICAN President emphasized the urgent need to bridge the ethical gaps in corporate governance, strengthen public finance management, and prepare accounting professionals for a future shaped by artificial intelligence, data analytics, and sustainability reporting.
“We must not only uphold the highest standards of our noble profession but also adapt to the rapidly changing global landscape. ICAN will continue to set the pace for competence and credibility in both private and public sectors,” the president stated.
Outgoing President, Mrs. Comfort Eyitayo, FCA, commended the resilience of members and outlined some of the institute’s recent achievements, including enhanced professional training frameworks, expanded international partnerships, and successful advocacy for fiscal reforms.
The event also featured the unveiling of the new ICAN theme for the year: “Redefining Value Through Ethical Leadership and Innovation.”
ICAN, established in 1965, remains Nigeria’s foremost professional accountancy body with over 60,000 members. The 61st presidency is expected to steer the institute toward deeper influence in national policy dialogues, anti-corruption reforms, and the development of future-ready professionals.
