ICPC Reaffirms Commitment to Regional Anti-Corruption Collaboration After South-South Conference

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has restated its dedication to fostering regional cooperation in the fight against corruption. This follows a productive one-day conference convened with State Attorneys-General from the South-South region of Nigeria.

Held as part of efforts to deepen inter-agency synergy and enhance the effectiveness of anti-corruption strategies, the meeting brought together top legal and justice sector stakeholders from across the region. Discussions focused on strengthening prosecution processes, improving information sharing, and coordinating preventive measures at both state and federal levels.

ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, who presided over the event, emphasized the need for unified action in addressing systemic corruption and restoring public confidence in governance. He noted that the South-South region, like other zones, faces unique challenges that require tailored and collaborative responses.

“The Commission recognizes that corruption at the sub-national level undermines development efforts. Therefore, closer partnerships with Attorneys-General and justice sector actors in the region are essential for coordinated enforcement,” Dr. Aliyu said.

Participants also explored legal reforms, capacity-building initiatives, and the institutionalization of anti-corruption protocols within state governments. The Attorneys-General in attendance pledged support for ongoing and future initiatives spearheaded by the ICPC.

The conference concluded with a joint resolution to establish a structured framework for continuous engagement between the ICPC and state legal authorities to improve transparency, accountability, and good governance in the region.
