Asaba, Delta State — September 5, 2025
The Igbo Unification Movement, in collaboration with the Ndi Na Asu Bia Socio-Cultural Organisation, concluded a two-day conference themed “Igbo-Bu-Ofu” (“Igbos Are One”), aimed at strengthening unity and addressing identity concerns among Igbo-speaking communities across Nigeria.
The event, held at Jace Darl Hotel in Okpanam City, Asaba, brought together delegates from 13 states. In a communique jointly signed by Chief Cosmas Agada, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, and Kingsley Kainebi, Coordinator of the Movement, participants reaffirmed the need to promote a shared heritage and heal longstanding identity divisions.
Senator Ned Nwoko (Delta North), who addressed the gathering, urged the Anioma people to embrace their Igbo roots and restated support for the eventual creation of Anioma State. He argued that stronger unity among Igbo subgroups would enhance political recognition and socio-cultural advancement.
Representing Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the Chief of Staff praised the organisers for their efforts but expressed disappointment over the poor turnout of other Igbo lawmakers and government officials. He stressed the importance of broad-based participation in the unity drive.
While the conference produced strong calls for cultural revival and solidarity, there is no verified record that the groups demanded additional federal government projects, contrary to some media reports. The communique and speeches focused on identity restoration, unity, and future political restructuring.
